At Burundi Action, our focus is on delivering sustainable solutions that improve the lives of vulnerable communities in Burundi. Our projects are designed to address critical needs—providing essentials, building safe homes, and creating opportunities for families to become self-sufficient. Below are the current and upcoming initiatives that drive our mission forward.
Egide cares for five vulnerable children who have known loss, displacement, and deep insecurity. This project provides a permanent, safe home where they can live with dignity, stability, and hope. A secure house offers more than shelter, it allows the children to attend school, sleep safely, and grow without the constant fear of displacement. This project has been fully secured, ensuring long-term stability for the family while allowing Burundi Action to focus on sustaining and supporting similar families in need.
Jeannette supports her family through courage, resilience, and hard work. This initiative helps her run a small local shop selling everyday essentials, providing a reliable income and independence from emergency aid. By supporting small-scale livelihoods, we help families move from survival to self-reliance. This project restores dignity, strengthens the local economy, and empowers women to care for their families sustainably.
In Mbuye, food insecurity is a daily reality, especially for children, the elderly, and vulnerable families. This programme provides essential food supplies during critical periods when shortages are most severe. By working locally, we ensure rapid response, reduced waste, and direct impact. This initiative addresses urgent needs while longer-term solutions are developed.
Five children under our care rely on consistent monthly support for food, education, and basic necessities. Regular giving ensures stability, uninterrupted schooling, and proper nutrition. Monthly contributions allow us to plan responsibly and provide continuous care, giving these children the chance to grow, learn, and build a different future.
This project aims to create a safe place of learning, dignity, and hope for girls in Burundi. In a context where many young women face exploitation, early vulnerability, and pressure into survival choices such as prostitution, education becomes a form of protection. The school will offer not only academic learning, but also guidance, stability, and practical skills linked to vocational training. The initiative is spearheaded by Franciscan sisters who have devoted their entire lives to serving others and accompanying young women with humility, patience, and care.
